Get to know Geriatrician Dr. Syed Mahboob, who serves patients in Manassas, Virginia. 

Dr. Mahboob is a fellowship-trained geriatrician at GPW Health Center. Since 2015, he has worked full time at the Manassas, Virginia location as a primary care physician.

GPW Health Center is a private, 501(c)(3) non-profit community health center serving Prince William County and the Cities of Manassas and Manassas Park, as well as other surrounding areas of Northern Virginia.  As a community health center, it serves as an important safety-net healthcare delivery role for the most vulnerable patients, reducing health gaps caused by differences in race and ethnicity, location, social status, income, and other factors that can affect health.

GPW Health Center provides each patient with their very own care team of board-certified physicians in family medicine, physicians in internal medicine and pediatrics, family nurse practitioners, family physician assistants, certified medical assistants, and other healthcare staff that ensure the best care possible. All the healthcare staff work in a team environment, serving patients of all ages and medical backgrounds and ensuring they meet each patient’s individual needs. 

Born in Pakistan, Dr. Mahboob completed medical school at Dow University of Health Sciences in 1998. He then completed his residency in family medicine at Howard University in Washington D.C., during which he was awarded the honor of Educational Chief Resident for the Residency Program.

After completing his residency, he continued his fellowship in geriatrics at Emory School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. 

With a passion for his profession, the doctor is board-certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM). The ABFM is a non-profit, independent medical association of American physicians who practice in family medicine and its sub-specialties.

Geriatrics, or geriatric medicine, is a specialty that focuses on health care of elderly people. It aims to promote health by preventing and treating diseases and disabilities in older adults. A geriatrician is a doctor who specialises in care of the elderly and the diseases that affect them. 

In his spare time, Dr. Mahboob enjoys outdoor activities such as running, biking, and hiking as well as playing chess and poker. He is also a big fan of the latest Hollywood movies.
