Throughout his academic career, Dr. Monka earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford, which became part of Rowan University as the Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine in July 2013. He completed an internship and residency at the former Humana Hospital in South Broward, Florida, where he served as Chief Resident, and a residency at what is now Overlook Medical Center in Union, New Jersey.

A Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (FACOFP), the doctor attained board certification in family medicine through the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians (AOBFP). The AOBFP is an organization that provides board certification to qualified osteopathic physicians who specialize in delivering comprehensive primary care for patients of all ages, genders, and addressing all parts of the body.

On a professional level, Dr. Monka is a member and Trustee of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). He has served the AOA in many capacities including third Vice President, member of the Bureau of State Government Affairs and program chair for OMED 2012 – the Osteopathic Medical Conference & Exposition. He is also past President of the New Jersey Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons.
