Get to know Emergency Physician Dr. Rodger Hanko, who serves patients in Alton, Illinois.

A competent emergency physician, Dr. Hanko is the Medical Director of the Emergency Department at OSF Saint Anthony’s Health Center in Alton, Illinois.

The Emergency Department at OSF Saint Anthony’s Health Center comprises of board-certified emergency room physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses and nurse assistants, trained in pediatric advanced life support and advanced cardiac life support. It also provides the specialized emergency care that is required in caring for the unique needs of children, having received Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics (EDAP) status.

A graduate of the University of Colorado, Dr. Hanko earned his medical degree from the Washington University School of Medicine. He performed both his internship and residency at the Jewish Hospital of St. Louis.

Following his training, the doctor attained board certification in internal medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine. The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Emergency medicine, also known as accident and emergency medicine, is the medical specialty concerned with the care of illnesses or injuries requiring immediate medical attention. An emergency physician works in an emergency department to care for acutely ill or injured patients on an unscheduled basis.

A member of the National and Phi Beta Kappa Scholastic Honor Societies, Dr. Hanko has been recognized as an “American Top Physician” by the Consumers’ Research Council.
