Get to know Family Physician Dr. Sophia N. Mirviss, who serves patients in Berkeley, California.

A top professional in the field of family medicine, Dr. Mirviss is in practice with Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in Berkeley, California. Her practice has been primarily focused on geriatric medicine, skin diseases, sports injuries, and women’s health care, including non-operative gyn, thyroid disorders, migraines, mood disorders and menopause, as well as health and aging. She has skills in minor dermatologic procedures, IUDs, and Nexplanon insertion and removal (certified). 

Licensed to practice medicine in California, she is affiliated with California Pacific Medical Center and St. Mary’s Medical Center-San Francisco. She also serves as an Associate Clinical Professor within the Department of Family Medicine at UCSF (1992-present). 

Before embarking on her professional journey, Dr. Mirviss graduated with her medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1988. She then went on to perform her internship and residency in family medicine at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center.

Subsequent to her education, the doctor attained board certification in family medicine through the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM). The ABFM is a non-profit, independent medical association of American physicians who practice in family medicine and its sub-specialties.

With over three decades of experience, Dr. Mirviss conceived of, developed the business plan for, and implemented the ongoing “Pacific Family After Hours Clinic” which offers urgent, after hours medical care to patients and non-patients after work evenings and Saturdays. The After Hours Clinic has been operational since 2009.

In direct affiliation with her industry, she is a member of the American Academy of Family Medicine, the Urgent Care Association of America, and the San Francisco Medical Society.

Family medicine is a medical specialty devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages. The specialist is called a family physician or family doctor. A family physician is often the first person a patient sees when seeking healthcare services. They examine and treat patients with a wide range of conditions and refer those with serious ailments to a specialist or appropriate facility.
