Get to know Optometrist Dr. William C. Fruchtman, who serves patients in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

A skilled optometrist, Dr. Fruchtman sees patients at his private practice in East Rutherford, New Jersey. He specializes in eye exams, contact lenses, eye infections & diseases, and prescription glasses and sunglasses.

Back in the early days of his academic career, he received his undergraduate degree from The University of Virginia and his Doctor of Optometry degree from the New England College of Optometry in 1991.

Optometry is a health care profession that involves examining the eyes and applicable visual systems for defects or abnormalities, as well as diagnosing and managing eye disease. Optometrists are healthcare professionals who provide primary eye care through comprehensive eye examinations to detect and treat various visual abnormalities and eye diseases. Being a regulated profession, an optometrist’s scope of practice may differ depending on the location. Thus, disorders or diseases detected outside the treatment scope of optometry (i.e. those requiring certain surgical interventions) are referred out to relevant medical professionals for proper care, more commonly to ophthalmologists who are physicians that specialize in the tertiary medical and surgical care of the eye. Optometrists typically work closely together with other eye care professionals, such as ophthalmologists and opticians, to deliver quality and efficient eye care to the general public.

Growing up in New Jersey, Dr. Fruchtman moved to Florida to enjoy the sunshine and explore the state’s west coast. He soon realized that he missed living in New Jersey full-time and moved back permanently. A true Yankees fan at heart, his favorite football team is the Miami Dolphins. His interests include kayaking, bike riding, sailing, golf, attending Broadway shows, and exploring surrounding cities.

To accommodate his varied clients, he is fluent in English, Polish, and Spanish. Sometimes he likes to surprise his patients by answering them in Tagalog, Arabic, French, Greek, Hindi, Russian, Italian, Korean or Hebrew.
