Get to know Cardiologist Dr. Koduvathara James, who serves patients in Kentucky.

Dr. James is an experienced cardiologist with special training and skill in finding, treating, and preventing diseases of the heart and blood vessels. His areas of interest include preventive cardiology, echocardiography, and nuclear cardiology.

In practice for over five decades, he is affiliated with UofL Health – Abraham Flexner Outpatient Care Center (Louisville) & UofL Physicians – Cardiology Associates (Bardstown) in Kentucky.

Upon graduating with his medical degree from Government Medical College Kottayam in India in 1972, Dr. James relocated to the United States to further his training. Once there, he completed his residency and fellowship in cardiology at Mercy Hospital & Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois.

A Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), the doctor is board-certified in both internal medicine and cardiovascular disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as some parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system).
