Get to know Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Christopher J. Nanson, who serves patients in Tigard, Oregon.

Being a board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Nanson has a special interest in reconstructive joint surgery with emphasis on hip and knee reconstruction. He specializes in the direct anterior approach, one of the minimally invasive techniques used in hip replacement surgery. He is also trained and certified in robotic-assisted MAKO partial knee resurfacing and total knee and hip replacements.

In practice since 2009, Dr. Nanson sees patients at Orthopedics Northwest in Tigard, Oregon. The practice consists of board-certified orthopedic physicians and certified physician assistants along with a clinical and administrative support team whose mission is to improve patients’ level of health and return them to their active lifestyle. They are dedicated and focused on providing excellent orthopedic care in a comfortable, caring, and professional environment using the latest state-of-the-art technology and comprehensive care.

The doctor’s hospital and medical center affiliations include: Legacy Meridian Park Hospital, Providence Portland Medical Center, Providence Willamette Falls Medical Center, South Portland Surgical Center, and Oregon Outpatient Surgery Center. He is also a team physician for the University of Portland Men & Women Athletic Teams and the U.S. Men & Women Soccer Teams.

On the subject of his educational background, Dr. Nanson completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Arizona and received his Master of Public Health (MPH) degree. He then went on to earn his medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine. He completed a surgical residency program at Phoenix Orthopedic Surgery, followed by an orthopedic residency program at the University of Arizona in Tucson. Thereafter, he completed an adult reconstructive surgery fellowship program at OrthoCarolina Hip and Knee Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

In order to stay up to date in his field, he remains a member of several professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, the North Pacific Orthopedic Society, the Oregon Association of Orthopedic Surgeons, and the Western Orthopedic Society.

Furthermore, he is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons, as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons. 

Orthopedic Surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and nonsurgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders. They work in clinical and hospital settings.

A native Oregonian, Dr. Nanson’s favorite recreational activities include playing golf, skiing, hiking, and cycling. He also enjoys reading and spending time with his family.
