At the start of his academic career, Dr. Korngut graduated with his Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology from Dartmouth College in 1972. He then went on to earn his medical degree from the Duke University School of Medicine in 1976, after which he furthered his training. He performed both his internship and residency in internal medicine at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas in 1977 and 1978-79, respectively.
Following his training, he attained board certification in internal medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Licensed to practice medicine in Texas, Dr. Korngut is a staff physician at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas (on the teaching faculty) and at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano.
An Associate of the American College of Physicians, he is a member of the Texas Medical Association and the Dallas County Medical Society.
