Get to know Interventional Cardiologist Dr. Carl D. Reimers, who serves patients in New York. 

Board-certified interventional cardiologist, Dr. Reimers, provides expert diagnosis and treatment for a wide array of cardiovascular-related conditions. At present, he serves as the Associate Chief of Cardiovascular Medicine in the Cardiology Department at the Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, New York. Lenox Hill Hospital is a 450-bed, acute care hospital recognized for outstanding and innovative patient care. A member hospital of Northwell Health, it is also an established leader in public health education and community outreach.

As for his academic title, Dr. Reimers serves as an Assistant Professor at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra Northwell in East Garden City, New York. The educational venue was established in 2008 by Hofstra University and Northwell Health. 

His acclaimed career in medicine began in 1988 when he earned his Medical Degree from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in Newark, New Jersey. He then went on to complete his both his residency in internal medicine and his fellowship training in cardiovascular disease at Mount Sinai Beth Israel in the Petrie Division. 

In addition to being a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the doctor is board-certified in both interventional cardiology and cardiovascular disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Interventional cardiology is the subspecialty of cardiology that deals specifically with the catheter-based treatment of heart diseases. The field includes the diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease, vascular disease, and acquired structural heart disease. An interventional cardiologist is a cardiologist with one to two years of additional education and training in diagnosing and treating cardiovascular disease, as well as congenital and structural heart conditions through catheter-based procedures, such as angioplasty and stenting.

With years of experience as an interventional cardiologist, Dr. Reimers specializes in all facets of his specialty, including complex interventional coronary procedures, rotational atherectomy, as well as percutaneous mitral and aortic valvuloplasty. Additionally, he has authored and co-authored numerous scientific papers.
