Dr. Obi Ekwenna, a distinguished board certified transplant and urologic surgeon, is a part of The University of Toledo Medical Center Medical Pavilion in Toledo, Ohio. With a wealth of experience in renal and pancreas transplants, general urology, minimally invasive surgery, GU oncology, and robotics, he brings a unique set of skills and expertise to the medical community.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Ekwenna holds an important academic position as an Associate Professor of Urology in the Department of Urology and Renal Transplantation at The University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences. Furthermore, he serves as the Associate Director of the Urology Residency Program, demonstrating his commitment to training the next generation of urologists.

Having earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of California Berkeley and his Medical Degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago, Dr. Ekwenna has a solid educational foundation. Following his academic pursuits, he completed his residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital and went on to gain specialized training in abdominal transplantation at the prestigious Miami Transplant Institute.

Dr. Ekwenna’s dedication to his field is evident through his board certifications in urology by the American Board of Surgery and as an Abdominal Transplant Surgeon by the American Society of Transplant Surgeons. He is also recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a testament to his expertise and standing within the surgical community.

With a keen interest in research, Dr. Ekwenna focuses on areas such as renal transplant, paired donation, paired exchange, disparities in transplant, and GU oncology. His passion for advancing medical knowledge and improving patient outcomes is reflected in his contributions to the field of urology and transplantation.
