Get to know Cardiologist Dr. Akif Mohammed, who serves patients in Fort Worth, Texas.

Well-versed in the field of cardiology, Dr. Mohammed joined the Heart Center of North Texas in 2016. He specializes in general cardiovascular diseases, interventional cardiology, peripheral vascular interventions, echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, cardiovascular computed tomography, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, congenital heart disease, pulmonary hypertension, venous insufficiency treatment of varicose veins as well as many other cardiovascular related diseases.

The Heart Center of North Texas is proud to serve the residents of Fort Worth and surrounding cities with the most comprehensive, specialized cardiac health care available. They work hard to exceed the needs of their patients and referring physicians. Their cardiology services cover a vast continuum of care, from prevention and early detection to the latest in cardiovascular treatment.

Born in India as the ninth and youngest child, Dr. Mohammed has had to persevere through very difficult circumstances to get to the position he is at now. With his father passing away from a heart attack, he has known he wanted to help cure heart disease from a young age. After graduating with his medical degree from Osmania Medical College, he went to England to further excel in his career. There, he earned an esteemed degree and became a member of the Royal College of Physicians.

Upon relocating to the United States, he completed his residency in internal medicine at Case Western University, followed by a fellowship in cardiovascular disease at Henry Ford Hospital, and a fellowship in interventional cardiology at St. John Hospital.

As a testament of his continued education, the doctor is board-certified in cardiovascular disease, adult comprehensive echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

An accomplished academic, Dr. Mohammed has given oral presentations at international conferences including American College of Cardiology, he has published articles in peer reviewed journals and has achieved several laureates during his medical school, residency and fellowship.

Cardiology is a branch of medicine tha deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as some parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system).
