Get to know Cardiothoracic Surgeon Dr. George J. Palmer, who serves patients in Orlando, Florida.
Dr. Palmer is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon with a special interest in minimally invasive surgical approaches, electrophysiology of the heart, and all aspects pertaining to adult cardiac and general thoracic surgery. He joined the team at Cardiovascular Surgeons, P.A. in Orlando, Florida on October 18th of 1995.
Cardiovascular Surgeons, P.A. has served the Central Florida community for over forty-five years. Today, five surgeons are on staff to assist patients and their families with cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgery. Their mission is “To provide our patients, referring physicians, and community with superb quality cardiovascular and thoracic surgical care in a professional, efficient, and personal manner.”
In practice in Central Florida since 1989, Dr. Palmer also served as the Director of Cardiovascular Surgery at the AdventHealth Cardiovascular Institute from 2005 to 2019. He is affiliated with AdventHealth Orlando, and is currently the Director of Cardiovascular Surgery at AdventHealth Celebration.
As an established member of the medical community, he is a member of many organizations, including but not limited to, the American College of Surgeons (Fellow), the American Medical Association, the Brevard County Medical Society, the Florida Medical Association, and the Florida Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons.
A native of New Orleans, Dr. Palmer graduated with his medical degree from the Creighton University School of Medicine. He completed his surgical internship and residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital, capping his tenure there as Chief Resident. He next served as a resident in cardiothoracic transplant and as a cardiothoracic research Fellow at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, continuing there as a resident in thoracic surgery and finally as chief resident of cardiothoracic surgery.
Dedicated to clinical excellence, the doctor is board-certified in thoracic and cardiac surgery by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery (ABTS). The ABTS is an American surgical organization devoted to surgery of the chest.
Furthermore, he is board-certified in surgery by the American Board of Surgery, an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.
