Get to know Family Physician Dr. Maurice Gilliam Wilkinson, who serves patients in Hallettsville, Texas.

An experienced family physician, Dr. Wilkinson has been with Lavaca Medical Center since 1988 and is an active member of the LMC Active Staff. She moved her existing practice to Lavaca Family Health Clinic in May 2014 and is currently seeing both existing and new patients.

With over 38 years of medical experience, she has a vast knowledge base and has worked in both solo primary practice and group primary care settings. Her primary focus is family medicine, but her secondary specialization in forensic medicine and geriatric medicine allows her to provide comprehensive care to her patients.

Back in the early days of her academic career, Dr. Wilkinson received her medical education from the Texas Tech University School of Medicine in Lubbock, where she graduated with honors. She then completed her residency in family medicine at Texas Tech University Medical Center in the same city.

Maintaining fellowship status, she is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians (FAAFP).

Family medicine is a medical specialty devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages. The specialist is called a family physician or family doctor. A family physician is often the first person a patient sees when seeking healthcare services. They examine and treat patients with a wide range of conditions and refer those with serious ailments to a specialist or appropriate facility.

Nationally recognized for her exceptional work, Dr. Wilkinson was awarded “The National Rural Health Practitioner of the Year Award” in 1998.
