Get to know Nephrologist Dr. Feroz Abubacker, who serves patients in Delaware.

Specializing in temporary dialysis access and kidney biopsy, Dr. Abubacker is a highly trained nephrologist at Nephrology Associates, P.A. He sees patients at the offices in Newark and Wilmington (St. Francis), Delaware.

Established in 1974, Nephrology Associates, P.A. is a single-specialty practice focusing on the care of patients with kidney disease and hypertension. The physicians are on-staff at all major hospitals in Delaware, as well as Union Hospital in Cecil County, Maryland. They are experts in the management of hypertension, chronic kidney disease, acute renal failure, end-stage renal disease, kidney transplantation, kidney stones, and other kidney-related disorders.

Graduating with his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree from Shri B. M. Patil Medical College in India in 1999, Dr. Abubacker performed his rotating internship at Medical College Hospital, Trivandrum that same year. He then went on to complete his residency in internal medicine at Medicare Hospital in 2002, followed by his residency and observership in internal medicine at Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust in the United Kingdom in 2008. A year later, he completed his fellowship in nephrology at City Hospital in Birmingham. 

Upon relocating to the United States, Dr.  Abubacker served his internship and residency in internal medicine at York Hospital in 2012. This was followed by a fellowship in nephrology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in 2014.

Subsequent to his education, the doctor attained board certification in internal medicine and nephrology through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

In affiliation with his professional industry, Dr. Abubacker is an active member of the American Society of Nephrology, the Renal Association (United Kingdom), the Renal Physicians Association, and the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom (MRCP(UK) – Certified).

Nephrology is a specialty of medicine and pediatrics that concerns itself with the kidneys. It is the study of normal kidney function and kidney disease, the preservation of kidney health, and the treatment of kidney disease, from diet and medication to renal replacement therapy. Nephrologists have advanced training in treating kidney disease. They diagnose and treat kidney failure, as well as help patients by prescribing medications, offering special diet advice, and coordinating dialysis care when the time comes.
