Get to know Ophthalmologist Dr. Maria F. Clemente, who serves patients in Hazlet, New Jersey.

Dr. Clemente is a results-oriented and dedicated ophthalmologist at the Eye Ear Nose And Throat Institute in Hazlet, New Jersey. 

An expert on the complicated anatomy of the eye, she provides general ophthalmology care and performs minor surgeries in-office. A few of these surgeries include cataract surgery, eyelid surgery and other facial cosmetic surgeries, cyst and stye removal, and Botox injections for cosmetic purposes and migraines. She also has advanced training in medically-assisted weight loss and weight management techniques. The two most common issues treated in her practice are glaucoma and allergies. 

Back in 1989, Dr. Clemente graduated with her medical degree from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She then went on to complete her internship in internal medicine at Morristown Medical Center in 1990, followed by her residency in ophthalmology at Nassau University Medical Center in 1993. 

In practice for over three decades, the doctor is board-certified in ophthalmology through the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO). The ABO is an independent, nonprofit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists (eye physicians and surgeons) in the United States.

Active in the community, Dr. Clemente and her office stay connected through charity events, such as sponsoring the Vision Walk with The Foundation Fighting Blindness.

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. They may provide routine care such as vision testing, as well as prescribe and fit eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and perform cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery.

Fluent in both English and Spanish, Dr. Clemente has been the recipient of several awards and honors throughout her fruitful career. These include: Patients’ Choice Award (2014, 2016) and Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2015).
