Get to know General Surgeon Dr. Giath Alshkaki Osman, who serves patients in Alexandria, Virginia.

Dr. Osman is an accomplished general surgeon serving as the Founder of Infinity Surgical Associates in Alexandria, Virginia. Having been practicing medicine for over fifteen years, his main areas of expertise include advanced laparoscopic minimally invasive surgery, bariatrics and colorectal surgery, minimal invasive hernia repairs, and endocrine surgery including thyroid disease.

In his official capacity, Dr. Osman is also the Medical Director of The Center for Infinity Colorectal Health in the Virginia / Washington D.C. area, and is in charge of the GI lab in Inova Alexandria Hospital.

In addition to being a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and a Fellow of the Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland (FRCSI), he is a member of many scientific national and international organizations. These include: the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, and the Society of Laparoscopic & Robotic Surgeons.

A graduate of the University of Mosul College of Medicine, Dr. Osman completed his residency in general surgery at Oregon Health and Science University. He then went on to complete yearlong fellowships in the fields of general, bariatric, and advanced laparoscopic surgery. 

With extensive national and international experience, the doctor is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery, an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge. 

General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland. A general surgeon performs a wide range of abdominal surgeries for many forms of intestinal and abdominal wall neoplasms, gallbladder disease, gastric and pancreatic disease. They follow the patient through critical care and surgical recovery all the way to outpatient care. 

On a more personal note, Dr. Osman speaks several languages, including English, Arabic, and Turkish.
