Get to know Pediatrician Dr. John DuPuis, who serves patients in Wichita, Kansas.

Dr. DuPuis is a board-certified pediatrician with a specialized interest in pediatric sports medicine. He joined Ascension Medical Group Via Christi on West St. Teresa in 1992. His best advice for parents is to put down their devices and electronics to spend actual face time with their children.

Practicing medicine in Kansas, he is affiliated with Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital and Wesley Healthcare Center.

The doctor’s acclaimed career in medicine began after he earned his medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1977. He then went on to perform his internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Toledo Medical Center, and his residency in pediatrics at the Wayne State University School of Medicine.

An authority in his field, Dr. DuPuis is board-certified in pediatrics and pediatric sports medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP). The mission of the ABP is to advance child health by certifying pediatricians who meet standards of excellence and are committed to continuous learning and improvement.

Pediatrics is the branch of medicine that involves the medical care of infants, children, and adolescents. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends people be under pediatric care up to the age of 21. Pediatricians provide medical care to people ranging in age from newborns to young adults. They are trained to examine, diagnose, and treat children with a wide variety of injuries and illnesses through all of their developmental stages, as they grow and mature.

Sunflower selected Dr. DuPuis to recognize the extraordinary efforts he and his staff have made to deliver quality pediatric care and clinical excellence to Sunflower members. In particular, he received Sunflower’s 2019 Summit Award for Excellence in Care for his quality measures of infant well care visits, lead screenings, and recommended immunizations.

Outside the office, he enjoys photography, computers, art, bicycling, and hiking on vacations. Originally from Toledo, Ohio, he has made a home in Wichita with his wife, Ann.

Despite his weakness for carrot cake, Dr. DuPuis has run the Wichita half marathon 3 times. Before he was a physician, he was a mouse keeper in his college psychology department and cleaned hundreds of cages every week.
