Dr. Zan Tyson, a distinguished North Carolina native and founding member of Carolina Cardiology Associates, currently serves as a staff electrophysiologist with Novant Health Cardiology in Winston-Salem and Kernersville, North Carolina. With an impressive career dedicated to advancing cardiac care, he brings over three decades of expertise in interventional cardiology and electrophysiology to his new position.
Academically, his journey in cardiac medicine began at Wake Forest University, where he completed his medical degree in 1984, followed by his residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Cardiology. As a board-certified interventional cardiologist and electrophysiologist, he has been at the forefront of developing innovative treatments for heart rhythm disorders since 1991. He was instrumental in establishing the Electrophysiology (EP) Program at Carolina Cardiology Associates and has pioneered numerous procedures, including percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) and defibrillator insertion.
From 1998 to 2017, Dr. Tyson played a critical role in the development and management of the Carolina Regional Heart Center in High Point, NC. His contributions significantly enhanced patient care and outcomes in the community. He later expanded his influence by establishing a new EP program at Southeastern Regional Medical Center, further demonstrating his commitment to improving heart health across North Carolina.
An expert in his field, Dr. Tyson holds four board certifications from the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology, and Interventional Cardiology.
