Get to know Nephrologist Dr. Martin Gelman, who serves patients throughout the State of Massachusetts. 

A renowned internist and nephrologist, Dr. Gelman is the Medical Director of Greater Boston Medical Associates. He oversees operations at offices located in Brighton and Hopedale, Massachusetts.

Backed by four decades of professional experience within the field of health care, Dr. Gelman offers comprehensive treatment for various kidney diseases, hypertension, and associated complications. His practice extends to addressing common issues like obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular ailments. Additionally, he administers vaccines, immunizations, and provides thorough care for general internal medicine concerns.

Educated in the United States, Dr. Gelman graduated with his Medical Degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1968. He then went on to perform his internship at the University of Southern California/LAC+USC Medical Center from 1968 to 1969, after which he pursued his residency in internal medicine at the same institution from 1969 to 1970. 

During his rotations, Dr. Gelman realized his love for internal medicine. The idea of replacing a failing organ, the kidney in particular, was something that fascinated him. He went on to complete his fellowship at Harvard Medical School and at Massachusetts General Hospital from 1973 to 1975. 

With extensive experience under his belt, the doctor is board certified in both internal medicine and nephrology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

In addition to seeing patients at his private practice, Dr. Gelman serves as an Assistant Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine and can be found on staff at Milford Regional Medical Center.

Nephrology is a specialty of medicine and pediatrics that concerns itself with the kidneys: the study of normal kidney function and kidney disease, the preservation of kidney health, and the treatment of kidney disease, from diet and medication to renal replacement therapy. Nephrologists have advanced training in treating kidney disease. They diagnose and treat kidney failure, as well as help patients by prescribing medications, offering special diet advice, and coordinating dialysis care when the time comes. 

Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Gelman has amassed a collection of accolades, including being named a Top Doctor in Nephrology by Castle Connolly for six consecutive years. He has also been honored as a Compassionate Doctor by Vitals and has made appearances on various television programs showcasing his expertise in the field.

Presently, Dr. Gelman holds two patents from the U.S. Patent Office for innovative medical devices, has authored over 28 peer-reviewed papers in medical literature, and has delivered lectures on kidney disease across New England and nationally. Moreover, he has been the recipient of numerous grants from both the medical industry and the Department of Health and Human Services. 

Recognized by US News and World Report as a Top Doctor in his region for the past decade, Dr. Gelman is currently engaged in a study focusing on Proteinuria.
