Get to know Gastroenterologist Dr. Andrew Ukleja, who serves patients in Boston, Massachusetts.

A highly-trained gastroenterologist, Dr. Ukleja can be found on staff at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC). Among his other practice locations include Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton, BIDMC’s Digestive Disease Center, and BIDMC’s Center for Advanced Endoscopy.

The doctor’s clinical interests include motility disorders, gastroparesis, colon cancer screening, endoscopy, gastroesophageal reflux disease, irritable bowel syndrome, celiac disease, general GI, and inflammatory bowel disease. 

BIDMC is a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. It was formed out of the 1996 merger of Beth Israel Hospital and New England Deaconess Hospital. The mission of the hospital is “ to serve our patients compassionately and effectively, and to create a healthy future for them and their families.”

Pertaining to his academic appointment, Dr. Ukleja serves as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. It is the graduate medical school of Harvard University.

Born in Poland, he graduated with his medical degree from the Medical University of Lodz, Faculty of Medicine in 1989. He then performed his internship at City Hospital, his residency at William Beaumont Hospital, and his fellowship at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science.

With years of experience, the doctor is board-certified in gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

In addition to being a Fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association, Dr. Ukleja is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology and ASPEN.

Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine focused on the digestive system and its disorders. A gastroenterologist is a physician who has extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders related to the esophagus, stomach, small intestines, colon, liver, pancreas, and biliary system.

On a more personal note, Dr. Ukleja is fluent in both English and Polish.
