Get to know Internist Dr. Fabricio J. Alarcon, who serves patients in Georgetown, Delaware.

With over two decades of experience in his field, Dr. Alarcon is a highly experienced internist serving as the owner & operator of Atlantic Family Physicians in Georgetown, Delaware. It is the mission of the practice to provide high quality, compassionate, and consistent medical services to each individual patient, resisting the increasing depersonalization of primary care and valuing the concept of family medicine.  

During his professional practice, Dr. Alarcon has dedicated his career to addressing serious problems that affect the community. This is reflected in other positions he holds. Namely, he is the Founder of Healthy Outcomes Medical Weight Loss Center in Georgetown, which provides a comprehensive approach to the obesity crisis, healthy lifestyle modifications, and an overall improvement in health via proper nutrition. The doctor’s main area of interest is related to the biochemical, hormonal, and neurochemical reactions that occur after we consume food, which ultimately controls appetite, metabolism, and food intake. Extensive education and knowledge of these principles form the basis for the Healthy Outcomes individualized scientific-approach to weight loss and maintenance.

Since its inception, Dr. Alarcon has served as the Chief Medical Officer of La Red Health Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center awarded as Level 3 Patient-Centered Medical Home. It provides access to a full range of primary care, behavioral health, prenatal and dental services to uninsured and underinsured patients.

Furthermore, he is the Medical Director of Addiction Medical Solutions, a premier provider of comprehensive, evidence-based addiction treatment in Maryland, Delaware, Florida, and Wisconsin.

Among his professional affiliations, the doctor is a member of the American Medical Association, the Obesity Action Coalition, the American Society of Addiction Medicine, and the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates. He is also a Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor and Provider.

In regards to his educational background, Dr. Alarcon completed medical school at Cayetano Heredia Peruvian University in Peru, where he graduated in the top 10% of his class. He moved to the United States in 1994, after which he completed his residency in internal medicine / primary care at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio in 1998. During his residency, he took the National In-Training exams and scored in the upper 10th national percentile all three years. He received the award of “Best Senior Resident of the Year” in 1997, and was subsequently elected Chief Medical Resident and served as such from 1998 until 1999.

A Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), he is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Scoring in the top 10% in the nation in his obesity medicine board exam, Dr. Alarcon is board-certified in obesity medicine by the American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM). The mission of the ABOM is to serve the public and the field of obesity medicine by maintaining standards for the assessment and credentialing of obesity medicine physicians.

Subsequently, he earned board certification in addiction medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine, which provides assurance to the American public that Addiction Medicine physicians have the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and treat addiction.

Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. They manage and prevent common and complex diseases by providing comprehensive care and promoting overall well-being.

As he continues applying the latest advances in bariatric medicine, Dr. Alarcon is passionate about helping other providers understand and treat obesity so that their patients too can become healthier for life. He is a preceptor for medical students, physician assistant students, and nurse practitioner students for several schools in the region. He also provides educational lectures to other practitioners all around Delaware and surrounding states and has conducted several publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Outside of practicing medicine, his hobbies include playing tennis and soccer‚ traveling, and spending quality time with family and friends. His favorite place to vacation in the Caribbean.
