Get to know Rheumatologist, Dr. Javaid S. Sheikh, who serves patients in Orlando, Florida

A board-certified rheumatologist, Dr. Sheikh specializes in the diagnosis and therapy of rheumatic disease. He practices at the Orlando Arthritis Institute and his areas of clinical interest include systemic lupus, rheumatoid arthritis and systemic vasculitis. Dr. Sheikh maintains hospital privileges at Orlando Regional Medical Center and Health Central Hospital.

Dr. Sheikh graduated with his medical degree from King Edward Medical University in London, UK, in 1982. Upon relocating to the United States, he completed his rheumatology fellowship and internal medicine residency at the University Hospital affiliated with the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1996. Dr. Sheikh is licensed to practice medicine in Florida. 

Subsequent to his education, Dr. Sheikh attained board certification in internal medicine and rheumatology through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. They manage and prevent common and complex diseases by providing comprehensive care and promoting overall well-being.

Rheumatology is a branch of medicine devoted to the diagnosis and therapy of rheumatic diseases. Physicians who have undergone formal training in rheumatology are called rheumatologists.
