Get to know Nephrologist Dr. Alison J. Fletcher, who serves patients in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

An excellent nephrologist, Dr. Fletcher is in practice at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, an affiliate of Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She also serves as an Assistant Professor within the Department of Nephrology at Wake Forest School of Medicine.

Back in the early days of her academic career, Dr. Fletcher graduated with her Associate’s Degree from Broward Community College in 2002, and her Bachelor of Science degree from Florida Atlantic University in 2004. She earned her medical degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine in 2008, and completed her residency in internal medicine and fellowship in nephrology at the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in 2011 and 2013, respectively.

An expert in her field, the doctor is board-certified in nephrology and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Nephrology is a specialty of medicine and pediatrics that concerns itself with the kidneys. It is the study of normal kidney function and kidney disease, the preservation of kidney health, and the treatment of kidney disease, from diet and medication to renal replacement therapy. Nephrologists have advanced training in treating kidney disease. They diagnose and treat kidney failure, as well as help patients by prescribing medications, offering special diet advice, and coordinating dialysis care or kidney transplantation when it becomes necessary.
