Why am I bleeding I am 53?
If you have stopped bleeding because of the menopause, and now have restarted, that needs to be assessed. This could be a warning of overgrowth of the uterine lining that could progress to a uterine cancer if left unchecked. A simple evaluation in the office is needed. If there is an overgrowth, it can usually be treated conservatively and you would be protected. To ignore this warning sign could expose you to serious problems that could advance to a cancer. Consult us at Advanced Gynecology, and we can get you in to see our doctor within a few days. Call 719 6338773. READ MORE

What’s wrong
There are a number of concerns, most of which have easy solutions. You could have a simple hormone imbalance, easily corrected. You may be producing too much estrogen, or too little of the other ovarian hormone, progesterone. You could have the polycystic syndrome, a condition in which you would have numerous small ovarian cysts that not only can throw your hormones out of balance, but also could have significant long term concerns such as an increase in the risk of heart disease, irregular and heavy bleeding, uterine cancer, breast cancer, unwanted weight gain, or other serious conditions. The good news is that these concerns can be addressed and well managed. For appointment call 719 633-8733. Dr. Stringfellow at Advanced Gynecology. READ MORE
Period
There are a number of causes for a teenage lady to miss periods. Pregnancy is one, but I have to assume that if you have not had a period in 8 months, that would have been obvious by now. Also, if you are on the birth control pill, or are using a progesterone IUD, or injection or implants of a synthetic progesterone to prevent pregnancy or help with heavy and/or crampy periods, it is common for periods to become very light or even go away. Some ladies will have a condition called the polycystic ovarian syndrome. There can be numerous small cysts on the ovaries that will put out too much of the normal female hormone, estrogen. That can cause an imbalance in hormones, and periods can be missed. There are other more rare conditions that can cause periods to be missed as well. It is important for you to see a gynecologist who can help you find the cause and correct this problem. Most of the time the corrections are easy, but occasionally the problem can be complicated, and careful management is needed to prevent potential complications. READ MORE
