Get to know Podiatrist Dr. Lee E. Firestone, who serves patients in Maryland and Washington, D.C.

As a board-certified podiatrist, Dr. Firestone specializes in sports medicine and the surgical & non-surgical correction of foot and ankle disorders. In practice since 1994, he provides his services at Foot & Ankle Specialists of the Mid-Atlantic in Chevy Chase, Maryland, and Washington, D.C.

Foot & Ankle Specialists of the Mid-Atlantic provide a full scope of surgical and non-surgical treatment options, emphasizing open communication and education. It is their aim to relieve every one of their patients of pain, thereby allowing them a return to a high level of function as quickly as possible.

Professionally, the doctor is affiliated with several hospitals and medical centers, including Massachusetts Avenue Surgery Center, MedStar Washington Hospital Center, and Sibley Memorial Hospital.

After completing his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1988, Dr. Firestone went on to earn his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine in 1992. Thereafter, he completed his surgical residency training at The Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C., where he served as Chief Resident.

In an attempt to enhance his professional development, he became board-certified in foot surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery, whose mission is to protect and improve the health and welfare of the public by the advancement of the art and science of podiatric surgery. He also attained certification in sports medicine. 

A Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and a Fellow of the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine, Dr. Firestone was recognized by his peers and colleagues in the Washingtonian Magazine as one of DC’s ‘Top Sports Medicine Providers’ and as a ‘Top DC Podiatrist’. He was also recognized by his fellow runners as ‘Best Doctor’ by Run Washington Magazine.

Podiatry is a branch of medicine devoted to the study, diagnosis, and medical and surgical treatment of a variety of disorders of the foot, ankle, and lower extremity. A podiatrist, also known as a podiatric physician or a foot and ankle surgeon, is a medical professional devoted to the treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle, and lower extremity. They can treat injuries and complications from ongoing health issues like diabetes. 

An avid runner, Dr. Firestone competes in many local and regional races. He has run multiple marathons, including Boston, New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Marine Corps. He is an RRCA-certified running coach with Montgomery County Road Runners (MCRRC) Experienced Marathon Program (XMP). He is also a master runner with the MCRRC racing team.

In his personal life, he and his wife, Sheryl, live in Montgomery County with their three children.
