Get to know Podiatrist Dr. David B. Gelbmann, who serves patients in Chicago, Illinois.

A board-certified podiatric physician and surgeon, Dr. Gelbmann specializes in treating all ailments of the foot, ankle, and leg at Gelbmann Podiatry, with two locations in the Near Southside and West Town neighborhoods of Chicago, Illinois. He has a special interest in the healing of complicated wounds of the lower extremity, the treatment of chronic foot and leg pain, and sports medicine.

Gelbmann Podiatry is a trusted and respected source for comprehensive foot and ankle care in Chicago, Illinois. Their highly experienced team diagnose and treat ingrown toenails, Achilles tendonitis, arthritis, flat feet, bunions, hammertoe, heel pain, and other podiatry conditions, injuries, and diseases. Their clinics feature high tech equipment, including digital X-ray, ultrasound, and 3D scanner for orthotics inserts and custom braces.

Academically, Dr. Gelbmann graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with dual degrees in Molecular Biology and Biology before attending the Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine. He then completed an intense three-year surgical residency at one of Detroit’s largest and busiest hospitals, St. John Hospital and Medical Center. 

While he was a resident, he performed 2-5 foot and ankle surgeries per day under the tutelage of Detroit’s best foot and ankle doctors. Following his residency, he moved to Vernon Hills, Illinois, and worked as an associate in private practice before settling in Chicago.

A Fellow of the American Academy of Physicians, the doctor is board-certified by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine and American Board of Podiatric Surgery, and board-qualified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. He is also certified in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support and Basic Life Support.

In his professional experience, he can be found on staff at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Weiss Memorial Hospital. He has published several papers and is a three-time participant and author in the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons Scientific Literature Review.

In his free time, Dr. Gelbmann enjoys running, playing softball, and spending time with his wife and young children. He also volunteers yearly in the medical tent at the Chicago Marathon and other running events in the Midwest.
