Get to know Gastroenterologist Dr. Touraj Farid, who serves patients in Beckley, West Virginia.

With over 50 years of experience, Dr. Farid is a board-certified gastroenterologist who is currently serving patients at Gastroenterology of Southern West Virginia in Beckley, West Virginia, which is a part of Raleigh General Hospital, whose mission is “Making Communities Healthier.” 

Dr. Farid earned his medical degree from Tehran University of Medical Sciences – School of Medicine in 1965. He completed his internship at NYU Winthrop Hospital. He also completed his residency in internal medicine and his fellowship in gastroenterology at Nassau University Medical Center.  

Dr. Farid is board-certified in both gastroenterology and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. Additionally, Dr. Farid is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology as well as a member of the American College of Physicians. 

Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine focused on the digestive system and its disorders. A gastroenterologist is a physician who has extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders related to the esophagus, stomach, intestines, and biliary system.
