Get to know Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Sumit Dewanjee, who serves patients in Tempe, Arizona.

Widely renowned as one of the premier orthopedic surgeons in Phoenix, Arizona, Dr. Dewanjee is the Founder of FXRX, a leading practice of Arizona orthopedic surgery in Tempe. His practice primarily focuses on orthopedic sports injuries of the shoulder, knee, and both upper and lower extremity traumatic fractures excluding hand injuries.  FXRX will also integrate orthopedic treatments such as PRP and cartilage restoration procedures. 

Knowledgeable in general orthopedics, with specialization in customized total knee reconstruction/replacement and shoulder reconstruction/replacement, Dr. Dewanjee is skilled in minimally invasive procedures using arthroscopy, with expertise in minimizing blood loss and patient recovery periods – all this while still providing the benefit of advanced and cutting-edge treatments in surgery. The minimally invasive approach also permits rotator cuff repairs or meniscal repairs through tiny incisions. 

Professionally, the doctor is affiliated with Arizona Specialty Hospital, which was rated #3 Orthopaedic Hospital in the USA,  as well as Arizona General Hospital and CORE Hospital. Dr. Dewanjee performs surgery at many outpatient ambulatory surgery centers throughout the greater Phoenix area including but not limited to Scottsdale, Tempe, Chandler, Mesa, Phoenix, Biltmore, and Laveen.  He is also experienced in orthopedic trauma and has provided level I Trauma services at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix. 

On the subject of his academic career, Dr. Dewanjee completed his medical degree at the University of Miami School of Medicine after majoring in Anatomy and Physiology at Cornell University. He completed his fellowship in sports medicine, focusing on athletic injuries of the knee and shoulder, in San Diego, California, where he gained experience in the care of high school, collegiate (USD, PLNU), and professional athletes (San Diego Chargers, San Diego Riptide, WWE). 

Building on that experience by continuing to incorporate the top options available for patients, he is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, which is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons, as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons. He is also an active MENSA member.
