  • When should you see an orthopedist for foot pain?

Unless the orthopedist is certified specifically in foot and ankle disorders, see a board certified podiatrist. Most orthopedic surgeons are qualified for large joints such as shoulders, hips and knees etc but have little experience with foot and ankle problems even if they advertise they address them. There is a special certification for orthopedist for foot and ankle. My first choice would be to see a podiatrist who has 4 years of medical school and post doctoral residency training in foot and ankle problems. READ MORE

  • My foot looks like it has a wart on the bottom of it. How can I get rid of it?

There are over the counter preparations of 17% salicylic acid that can be used to remove plantar warts. Follow the directions carefully, as the acid can burn normal skin as well. Do not use if you are diabetic or have poor circulation. If this treatment doesn’t help, then see a podiatrist. READ MORE

  • How do you get rid of a ganglion cyst on your foot?

The procedure to remove a ganglion is called ganglion resection. The initial treatment of a ganglion is not surgical, but if pain becomes a problem, your podiatrist may recommend aspiration, a procedure to remove the cyst's fluid through a needle. If aspiration and injection of corticosteroids fails, then resection is indicated. READ MORE

  • Can you walk after toenail removal?

Absolutely! On the day of surgery, it is advised to elevate the foot until the next day. Follow your doctor’s instructions and you can continue with normal activity as tolerated. Acetaminophen is usually all that is required for any discomfort. READ MORE
