Get to know Nephrologist Dr. Jyoti Eknoor Brar, who serves patients in Wausau, Wisconsin.

Dr. Brar is a board-certified, fellowship-trained nephrologist who sees patients at Aspirus Nephrology Clinic in Wausau, Wisconsin. 

A healthcare leader and entrepreneur, she also serves as a physician reviewer for the Medical Consultants Network (Freelance), a transplant nephrologist at Amaltas Med, LLC, and as a freelance columnist with The White Coat Investor.

Educated in India, Dr. Brar graduated with her medical degree from Government Medical College, Chandigarh in 2006. She then relocated to the United States, performing her residency in internal medicine at SUNY Buffalo in 2011, her fellowship in nephrology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in 2013, and an additional fellowship in transplant medicine at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2014.

Recognized for her outstanding credentials, high professional achievement, commitment to the field, and demonstrated scholarship, Dr. Brar is a Fellow of the American Society of Nephrology. She is also a member of the American Society of Hypertension.

Board-certified in both internal medicine and nephrology, she is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

With an expanded clinical skill set in nephrology, hypertension, and transplant medicine, Dr. Brar is affiliated with Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Nephrology is a specialty of medicine and pediatrics that concerns itself with the kidneys. It is the study of normal kidney function and kidney disease, the preservation of kidney health, and the treatment of kidney disease, from diet and medication to renal replacement therapy. Nephrologists have advanced training in treating kidney disease. They diagnose and treat kidney failure, as well as help patients by prescribing medications, offering special diet advice, and coordinating dialysis care or kidney transplantation when it becomes necessary.

Passionate about advocacy for patients and early career/women physicians, Dr. Brar has volunteered on the American Society of Transplantation’s Trainee and Young Faculty Community of Practice as well as on the Women’s Health Community of Practice.

On a more personal note, she is fluent in English, Hindi, and Punjabi.
