Get to know Endocrinologist Dr. Laura S. Rainer, who serves patients in Venice, Florida.

Dr. Rainer is a fellowship-trained endocrinologist who specializes in treating diabetes, thyroid disorders, osteoporosis, pituitary abnormalities, and other hormonal dysfunctions. She is in practice with Gulf Coast Medical Group Endocrinology in Venice, Florida.

Her knowledge of endocrinology, diabetes and metabolic disorders, along with her commitment to each of her patients’ well-being, makes her a valuable addition to Gulf Coast Medical Group’s growing roster of primary care physicians and specialists in Sarasota County. Her day-to-day responsibilities include patient care and diagnosis, procedures, and follow up care.

The doctor’s acclaimed career in medicine began after she earned her medical degree from Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Romania. Upon relocating to the United States, she went on to perform her residency in internal medicine / pediatrics and her fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes & metabolism at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center.

Having been in practice for over three decades, Dr. Rainer is board-certified in endocrinology, diabetes & metabolism by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

A leader in her field, she holds certifications in Bone Densitometry, Clinical Diabetes Technology, and accreditation in Thyroid US and Thyroid Nodules FNA Biopsy.

Endocrinology is a branch of biology and medicine dealing with the endocrine system, its diseases, and its specific secretions known as hormones. Endocrinologists have the training to diagnose and treat hormone imbalances and problems by helping to restore the normal balance of hormones in the body. The common diseases and disorders of the endocrine system that endocrinologists deal with include diabetes mellitus, as well as adrenal, pituitary, and thyroid disorders, among others. 

Looking back, Dr. Rainer pursued the field after becoming fascinated with the specialty of endocrinology. She attributes her level of success to hard work and a passion for helping people. 

Among her many accomplishments, she is honored by her patients’ gratitude when they are empowered to get in control of their chronic conditions. She is the recipient of a number of awards and honors, including Patients’ Choice Award (2015, 2016, 2018, 2020), Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2015, 2018, 2020), and On-Time Doctor Award (2020).
