Elevating Healthcare Standards at The Ginny Shubert Center for Harm Reduction 

Dr. Joyce Gholson, DO, AOA, ACOFP, FAOAAM, is a distinguished board certified family physician with a passion for enhancing healthcare practices. With a strong commitment to professional development, she has ventured into addiction medicine and outpatient suboxone therapy, solidifying her reputation as a versatile medical practitioner. 

As the esteemed Medical Director of Housing Works Community Healthcare, Dr. Gholson spearheads initiatives that promote good health and foster positive social change within the community. Through a blend of empowerment, innovation, and collaboration, Housing Works Community Healthcare offers integrated medical care and essential services aimed at enhancing individual well-being and community welfare. 

Dr. Gholson’s academic journey culminated in the attainment of her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree from the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2006. Subsequently, she completed her residency at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, refining her skills and expertise in family medicine and osteopathic manipulative medicine. Her dedication and proficiency have earned her certifications in addiction medicine and family practice, recognized by the AOA Board of Family Physicians and the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons. 

An active member of prestigious medical associations including the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) and the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP), Dr. Gholson is also a Fellow of the American Osteopathic Association of Addiction Medicine (FAOAAM). 

Beyond her medical commitments, she engages in community service as a member of various organizations, including Jack and Jill of America (Suffolk County mother member) Boy Scouts of America (Den Leader), and the National Coalition of Black Women (Suffolk County chapter member).

Since February 2023, Dr. Gholson has been serving as an Adjunct Professor at the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine’s D.O. program, which trains physicians for a lifetime of learning and practice based upon the integration of evidence-based knowledge, critical thinking, and the tenets of osteopathic principles and practice.

Emphasizing the importance of work-life balance, Dr. Gholson advocates for holistic well-being, recognizing the significance of personal fulfillment outside the realm of medicine. Noteworthy for her multilingual capabilities in English, Haitian Creole, and Spanish, she embodies a diverse and inclusive approach to healthcare, ensuring effective communication and patient care.
