Get to know Ophthalmologist Dr. Eric Gechter, who serves patients in Deerfield Beach, Florida.

Dr. Gechter can be found on staff at Broward Health North in Deerfield Beach, Florida. The 409-bed hospital offers a full continuum of care featuring a comprehensive stroke center, an adult level II trauma center, a neurological institute, a joint replacement center, cardiovascular services, as well as general, vascular, endovascular, and neurosurgery. Its mission is “ to provide quality healthcare to the people we serve and support the needs of all physicians and employees.” Dr. Gechter is also on staff at Holy Cross Hospital where he is on call in the emergency room.

In his current capacity, Dr. Gechter is also affiliated with the Boca Raton Outpatient Surgery & Laser Center, North Miami Beach Surgical Center and the Holy Cross HealthPlex Surgery Center. 

A 1975 graduate of the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara in Mexico. This was followed by three years of general surgery College of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and one year at Downstate Medical Center.  He then went into Ophthalmology, where he spent three years at Downstate Medical Center being Chief Resident in 1981. 

Dr. Gechter is a member of The American Board of Quality Assurance & Utilization Review Physicians, where he obtained fellowship status.  

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. They may provide routine care such as vision testing, as well as prescribe and fit eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and perform cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery. 

Among his numerous accolades, Dr. Gechter is the recipient of the Patients’ Choice Award (2014, 2015) and Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2014).
