Graduating with his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Baylor University in 2000, Dr. Garza-Cavazos went on to earn his medical degree from the Boston University School of Medicine in 2006. 

Furthering his training, he performed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Jackson Memorial Hospital in 2010. He then completed his fellowship in minimally invasive gynecological surgery within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at SIU School of Medicine in 2012.

A Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG), the doctor is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). The mission of the ABOG is to define standards, certify obstetricians and gynecologists, and facilitate continuous learning to advance knowledge, practice, and professionalism in women’s health. 

Among his other roles at SIU School of Medicine, Dr. Garza-Cavazos serves as an Assistant Director of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery and as an Associate Professor.

His research interests include pelvic pain and minimally invasive gynecologic surgery.
