With years of experience in his field, Dr. Kazem is board-certified in neonatal-perinatal medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP). Founded in 1933, the ABP is an independent, nonprofit organization and one of the 24 certifying boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties.

His acclaimed career in medicine began when he earned his medical degree from Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt. Wanting to further his education, he relocated to the United States. There, he completed his residency in pediatrics at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, followed by his fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine at Duke University School of Medicine in North Carolina. 

Neonatology is a subspecialty of pediatrics that consists of the medical care of newborn infants, especially the ill, or premature newborn. It is a hospital-based specialty and is usually practiced in neonatal intensive care units. Neonatologists generally diagnose and treat newborns with conditions such as breathing disorders, infections, and birth defects, as well as coordinating care and medically managing newborns born prematurely, critically ill, or in need of surgery.
