Get to know Neurosurgeon Dr. Nilesh Narandas Kotecha, who serves patients throughout the State of Texas.

Dr. Kotecha is an accomplished neurosurgeon specializing in complex and reconstructive spine surgery, as well as minimally invasive surgical techniques. He is CEO and Founder of the Texas Institute for Spine Care, with offices in Houston, College Station, and Beaumont. 

Committed to delivering top-notch care, Dr. Kotecha extends his expertise to patients with a range of spinal conditions. His diverse clientele includes lawyers, doctors, NFL players, entrepreneurs, and business leaders who rely on his advice and surgical proficiency. He is also a  visionary creator and designer of spinal implants that are used globally. 

Embracing a patient-centered approach to spine care, Dr. Kotecha advocates for surgery only after exploring all conservative options. Specializing in minimally invasive and endoscopic spine surgery techniques, he prioritizes methods that promise faster recovery, reduced pain, and fewer complications compared to traditional open spine surgery, which involves cutting and damaging muscles.

With extensive training and expertise in complex and reconstructive spine surgery, Dr. Kotecha caters to patients who have experienced unsuccessful spinal surgeries in the past. Conducting thorough physical and neurological evaluations, he employs various diagnostic tools, including MRI scans, CT scans, and X-rays, to determine the optimal surgical approach for each patient. 

Thereafter, Dr. Kotecha provides a detailed explanation of the surgery’s benefits and risks, educating patients about the underlying cause of their pain. Respecting patient autonomy, he refrains from pressuring them into hasty decisions, approaching their care with compassion and professionalism.

Pertaining to his educational background, Dr. Kotecha graduated from the University of Texas Medical School – Houston and trained in neurosurgery at University of Massachusetts-Worcester and Brown University / Rhode Island Hospital. He then completed a rigorous fellowship in spine surgery at the University of South Florida, Tampa General Hospital with Dr. David Cahill, a leading spine surgeon. He gained experience in treating patients with complex spinal conditions, including those who had failed previous spine surgeries (Failed Back Syndrome). He also pursued a second fellowship in orthopedic spine surgery at Desert Institute for Spine Care with Dr. Anthony Yeung, a pioneer in endoscopic spine surgery.

With three decades of spine excellence, Dr. Kotecha is a Diplomate of the American Board of Neurological Surgery (ABNS). The broad aim of the ABNS is to encourage the study, improve the practice, elevate the standards and advance the science of neurological surgery and thereby serve the cause of public health.

Actively involved in professional associations, Dr. Kotecha is a member of the North American Spine Society, the Congress of Neurosurgery, the International Intradiscal and Transforaminal Therapy Society, and the Texas Medical Association. 

In addition, he is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and a Fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (FAANS).
