prostate
Great question. Although the urethra is continuous from the bladder to the tip of the penis inside the prostate its more of just a lining. Picture it as a carpet overlying the prostate gland. When you resect it, yes, you are removing the urethral lining. It starts to reline itself within days and eventually has a complete new lining. Like removing carpet, lowering the floor, then laying in new carpet. READ MORE
pain after vasectomy
It depends on how long ago your vasectomy was. If in the last few weeks, that is not uncommon. If several months ago you probably need to get checked out. Could be infection, sperm granuloma, scar, etc. RSN READ MORE
Small bump on a testicle?
The bumps on the penis are probably pearly papules since you have never had sex. The bump on the testicle needs to get checked by a doctor. Testicular cancer is the most common solid tumor in young men. You may need an ultrasound. On a positive note, if it moves around and is not attached to the testicle it is probably just your epididymis. Please get checked. RSN READ MORE
UTI? Kidney Stones? Anxiety??
If you had symptoms in November and had a negative CT scan it's unlikely the symptoms you're having now are from a stone. Stones can form fast but are still unlikely. Problem is that a CT with contrast can miss small stones because the contrast is white and stones are white on CT. If blood is in the urine it's possible. More likely cystitis. Check into a test by a company called Pathnostics. It checks PCR for a lot of microorganisms that may not grow out on culture. READ MORE
Pimple On scrotum
It sounds like a small abscess that needs to be drained. It could be a sebaceous cyst, check out pictures on the internet. Those shouldn't be popped. Now that there is puss it probably needs to be drained. READ MORE

Urinary issues?
That's easy. Get a 2nd opinion. You probably were living close to the edge and something tipped you over. Once your bladder stretched out, you're on the "other side" of the edge and struggling. You likely will need long-term medication (you're on 2 of the big 3 we use). The 3rd med you could use is Cialis 5 mg daily. If a patient doesn't want to be on meds then I'd look in and see the configuration of the prostate. Options depending on size and configuration include TURP (laser or regular), UroLift, Rezum, etc. UroLift is the only treatment without sexual side effect. If it was me, I'd probably try the combination of tamsulosin and Cialis and see if that'9s better. If not, seek treatment. RSN READ MORE

Post hernia question?
Very strange. Even if they damage the vas deferens, that is only 3% to 5% of your ejaculate. It really should have nothing to do with your ability to climax. Usually, that’s a result of medications, nerve injury, or diabetes. READ MORE
PVR Test?
Don't do anything different if it's just a post-void residual. They will ask you to urinate and then measure how much is left with an ultrasound. If you over drink, sometimes your bladder will be stretched out and it won't be accurate. READ MORE

Blood in semen. Is this bad?
Hematospermia, or blood in the semen, is common and usually benign. That being said you should have a rectal exam and a PSA. You should also have a urine checked for blood. Most of the time it's benign and heals in a few weeks. Roscoe S. Nelson, MD READ MORE
Why should people with kidney stones avoid spinach?
Spinach, other greens, leafy vegetables, along with coffee, tea, dark sodas, and nuts, all have high counts of oxalates in them. For that matter, other foods in excess like meat or protein can cause different types of stones. Roscoe S. Nelson, MD READ MORE
