Get to know Endodontist Dr. Jason M. Shroyer, who serves patients in Houston, Texas.

Dr. Shroyer is an endodontist who is currently serving patients’ dental needs at Gulf Coast Endodontics in Houston, Texas. Gulf Coast Endodontics provides extensive endodontic care, which includes root canal therapy, root canal retreatment, root canal surgery (apicoectomy), treatment of cracked teeth, and traumatic dental injuries. The compassionate team of professionals working there are dedicated to creating a comfortable and friendly environment.

Born and raised in Tucson, Arizona, Dr. Shroyer grew up in a hilly neighborhood nestled up against the beautiful Catalina Mountains where he learned how to hike, swim, bike, and run through the desert landscape, which he loved. As a child and adolescent, one could often find Dr. Shroyer exercising in Sabino Canyon State Park, which his family lived near.

At the age of 12, Dr. Shroyer decided he wanted to become a dentist, but only if his dream of becoming a professional baseball player did not become reality. He stayed focused on that path. He attended the University of Arizona where he was a student athlete playing baseball for the University of Arizona Wildcats for four years, while earning a Bachelor of Science degree in finance. Dr. Shroyer’s dream of becoming a professional baseball player was cut short when a professional team didn’t draft him. In 2001, he hung up his baseball spikes and pursued his second passion, dentistry. In 2003, he was accepted into the Boston University Goldman School of Dentistry where he studied and treated patients for seven years, earned his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry degree, as well as completed two residencies.

After completing an endodontic program in 2010, Dr. Shroyer entered private practice and partnered with one of the largest, well-known endodontic practices in the nation – Southern Arizona Endodontics in Tucson, Arizona.

In 2014, Dr. Shroyer decided to move to Texas to live in and serve the Austin Community. In August of 2016, he joined the team at Gulf Coast Endodontics after spending several weekends visiting his former BU colleagues and getting to know the Houston area.

Endodontics is the dental specialty concerned with the study and treatment of the dental pulp. “Endo” is the Greek word for “inside” and “odont” is the Greek word for “tooth.” An endodontist is a dentist who specializes in saving teeth. One of the things that Dr. Shroyer likes most about his career choice is the direct impact it has on patients’ well-being and happiness. In the field of endodontics, many of the patients who come in for treatment are experiencing pain. “Alleviating someone’s pain is the best feeling!” said Dr. Shroyer.

As a former baseball player with a passion for all things sports, Dr. Shroyer is eager to once again take advantage of the many athletic opportunities Houston affords, including swimming, kayaking, cycling, running, and golfing. Dr. Shroyer is married. He and his wife, Tifney, have a son named Cooper.
