Get to know Obstetrician-Gynecologist Dr. Marta C. Kolthoff, who serves patients in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Kolthoff is a skilled obstetrician-gynecologist who specializes in genetic issues related to pregnancy, particularly those affecting the fetus or the mother. She is well-versed in a range of diagnostic procedures, including chorionic villus sampling, amniocentesis, and fetal ultrasounds.

As Director of Clinical Genetics at West Penn Hospital, she plays a crucial role in helping families understand and manage genetic risks during pregnancy. She has a particular interest in perinatal palliative care, perinatal loss, and bereavement.

Moreover, Dr. Kolthoff serves as the Director of the Olivia’s Angels Perinatal Palliative Care Program at Allegheny Health Network. In this role, she is dedicated to providing compassionate care and support to families who are dealing with difficult pregnancies and fetal diagnoses.

Throughout her academic career, she graduated with her medical degree from the SUNY at Buffalo School of Medicine, and went on to complete her residency in obstetrics & gynecology and her fellowship in medical genetics and genomics at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. In addition to her medical training, she is also a trained bioethicist and holds a master’s degree in this field from the University of Pittsburgh.

Passionate about her profession, the doctor is board-certified in obstetrics & gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). The ABOG is a non-profit organization that provides board certification for practicing obstetricians and gynecologists in the United States and Canada.

To boot, Dr. Kolthoff is board-certified in medical genetics and genomics by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG). The mission of the ABMGG is to serve the public and medical profession by establishing professional certification standards and promoting lifelong learning as well as excellence in medical genetics and genomics.

Achieving fellowship status, she is a Fellow of the American College of Medical Genetics (FACMG), and Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG).

Obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN) is the medical specialty that encompasses the two subspecialties of obstetrics (covering pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period) and gynecology (covering the health of the female reproductive system – vagina, cervix, uterus, ovaries, and breasts).

In recognition of her outstanding work and dedication to her patients, Dr. Kolthoff was awarded the Pittsburgh Business Times Health Care Hero Award in 2018.
