Dr. Miller, an experienced psychiatrist, is the President of Alternative Services Network in Houston, Texas. He has been in private practice for over 25 years, providing comprehensive care and treatment to children, teenagers, and adults with a broad range of psychiatric disorders.
Specializing in psychiatric diagnosis and advanced clinical psychopharmacology, he has held major psychiatric management posts, including medical director of two psychiatric hospitals – Cypress Creek Hospital and Kingwood Pines Hospital; state mental health commissioner in three states (Georgia, New Hampshire, Texas); and assistant commissioner in New York State. In addition, he has taught on the faculties of several medical schools, including serving as a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Services at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth.
Back in the early days of his academic career, Dr. Miller graduated with his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in 1960. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, and did his postgraduate training in psychiatry at Montefiore Medical Center in New York, University Hospitals of Cleveland in Ohio, and Austin State Hospital in Texas.
Licensed to practice medicine in Texas, he is board-certified in psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, and addiction psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting high quality patient care for the public through the initial and continuing certification of psychiatrists and neurologists.
Psychiatry is the medical specialty devoted to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of mental disorders. These include various maladaptations related to mood, behavior, cognition, and perceptions. Psychiatrists evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. They conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, develop treatment plans, prescribe medication, and evaluate treatment results.
As a testament to his success, Dr. Miller has been the recipient of several awards and honors, including Patients’ Choice Award (2015), Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2015), and On-Time Doctor Award (2015, 2016, 2018).
