  • Can LASIK cure my astigmatism?

Yes, today's LASIK is very effective at reducing or completely eliminating regular astigmatism, even moderate to high amounts. A complete LASIK candidacy evaluation is required to be sure you are a good candidate for any refractive eye surgery procedure. Stephen B. Whiteside, MD READ MORE

  • Is cataract surgery effective?

Yes, modern cataract surgery is very effective. Great outcomes, with an excellent safety profile. As with any surgical procedure, a complete candidacy evaluation is required. There are several tests that will be done to determine the exact "power" of the replacement lens that will be used for your procedure. Stephen B. Whiteside, M.D. READ MORE

  • Do you get sedation for LASIK?

Many LASIK surgeons use some form of mild oral sedation, like Xanax. It acts as a relaxing agent before and during surgery, as well as a sleep aid once you get home for your nap following the procedure. READ MORE

  • How soon after pregnancy can you get LASIK?

Congrats on the new addition to the family! The easy answer is 3 months after delivery...but, we also like to see 2 "normal" cycles before proceeding. If you will be nursing, we also like to see 2 normal cycles before proceeding. Hope that helps! As always, please consult with your LASIK provider for his/her personal guidelines. • Can dry eye cause irregular astigmatism?

Greetings! Yes, and no, to your question. If you have mild to moderate dry eyes and get a corneal "mapping" test done at your eyecare provider's office, it may show something that looks like irregular astigmatism. But, typically, the mapping tests can improve if you treat the dry eye. The significant long-term dry eye could theoretically create scarring and haze on the eye that causes irregular astigmatism that doesn't improve. I hope that helps! READ MORE
