Get to know Pediatrician Dr. Quntao Yu, who serves patients in Sugar Land, Texas.

Being a board-certified pediatrician, Dr. Yu takes care of children from newborn through adolescence. His private practice, Colony Pediatric, is located in Sugar Land, Texas.

“Colony Pediatric is committed to the healthy development of children, physically and psychologically. We believe a doctor-patient relationship established based upon mutual trust plays the most important role in caring for our patients. We accept all ethnicities, religions, and cultures. We practice medicine following the AAP guidelines in combining the oriental theory of medicine – balancing Yin and Yang by modifying the interactions between the human body and the environment. Our philosophy is to be passionate and patient, spending more time with the patients and prescribing as little medication as possible” as stated on their website. 

The doctor’s acclaimed career in medicine began after he earned his medical degree from Qingdao Medical College in China in 1983. After his residency in pediatrics, he went on to serve his fellowship in pediatric cardiology at the Capital Pediatric Institute of Peking Union Medical College (Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences) in Beijing. In three years, he completed systematic training as a clinical pediatric cardiologist with honors. During his fellowship, he participated in two major national tasks and conducted three publications on children’s myocarditis and hypertension. For that, he was invited to the Department of Cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine as a Bugher Foundation Fellow of Molecular Biology in Cardiovascular Systems (sponsored by the American Heart Association in 1990).

During his fellowship and following times, Dr. Yu had done profound research in molecular biology and molecular genetics in cardiomyopathy, sponsored by the AHA and NIH, and several clinical projects on molecular markers for coronary heart diseases. He dedicated his major efforts to finding the mutations of the disease-causing candidate genes and establishing transgenic cell and animal models with the mutations. His works were presented at many national conventions and resulted in more than twenty papers published in peer-reviewed professional journals.

Following the completion of his second round of pediatric residency training at Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Texas in 2000, Dr. Yu established Colony Pediatric. For over 6 years, he has also been serving as the Pediatric/OB-GYN Department Chair for Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital, as well as remains affiliated with Texas Children’s Hospital and Methodist Sugar Land Hospital.

A Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP), he is board-certified in pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics, which is an independent, nonprofit organization whose certificate is recognized throughout the world as a credential signifying a high level of physician competence. 

Pediatrics is the branch of medicine that involves the medical care of infants, children, and adolescents. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends people be under pediatric care up to the age of 21. Pediatricians provide medical care to people ranging in age from newborns to young adults. They are trained to examine, diagnose, and treat children with a wide variety of injuries and illnesses through all their developmental stages, as they grow and mature. 

With his dedication to patients and the community, Dr. Yu was elected as the Best Pediatrician in Fort Bend in 2006 by the readers of Fort Bend/Southwest SUN. He has also been awarded Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017), On-Time Doctor Award (2015, 2017), Patients’ Choice 5th Anniversary Award (2012), and Patients’ Choice Award (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2017).

In his personal life, Dr. Yu has a pleasant and happy family. He and his wife have been married for over 30 years. They have 3 lovely children.
