Get to know more about Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Douglas C. Wisch, who serves patients in Connecticut. 

Dr. Wisch is a highly-trained orthopedic surgeon at Litchfield Hills Orthopedic Associates, LLP, seeing patients at the offices in Torrington and Bristol, Connecticut. He provides specialized care for the hand, wrist and elbow, including orthopedic trauma and complex microsurgery. His expertise includes the care of the back, neck, and spine in addition to fracture care and intricate neurosurgical procedures.

At present, he is an attending physician at Bristol Hospital and at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington, where he has served as chief of orthopedic service. He is also affiliated with Litchfield Hills Surgery Center and Sharon Hospital.

In regards to his educational background, Dr. Wisch earned his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark, where he also completed an internship in general surgery and a residency in orthopedic surgery, serving as chief resident and clinical assistant instructor. He then completed a hand/microsurgery fellowship at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

Following his training, he attained board certification in orthopedic surgery and surgery of the hand through the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.

A Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, Dr. Wisch is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the Connecticut Medical Society, the Connecticut Orthopedic Society, the Ethics and Professionalism Committee, the Litchfield County Medical Association, the New England Hand Society, the New England Shoulder and Elbow Society, and the New York Society for Surgery of the Hand.

Orthopedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.

Throughout his line of work, Dr. Wisch has given lectures and has authored professional articles on topics related to hand surgery. Additionally, in recognition of his outstanding care, he has been peer-nominated and named a Top Doctor for several consecutive years in the national publication Castle Connolly.
