Get to know Anesthesiologist Dr. Poornima Paramesh, who serves patients in Pennsylvania.

A practicing anesthesiologist, Dr. Paramesh manages patient pain levels before, during, and after surgical procedures. In collaboration with Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic, she is affiliated with Mercy Catholic Medical Center – Mercy Fitzgerald Campus & Nazareth Hospital.

Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic is the largest Catholic healthcare system serving the Greater Philadelphia area and is a part of Trinity Health of Livonia, Michigan, and sponsored by Catholic Health Ministries. It was formed in October 2018 by the joining together of Mercy Catholic Medical Center, Nazareth Hospital, Saint Francis Healthcare, St. Mary Medical Center, and their associated home health and LIFE programs, physician practices, aligned joint ventures, sub-corporations, programs and services.

Educated in India, Dr. Paramesh earned her medical degree at Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute in 1985. After relocating to the United States, she performed her internship at Maimonides Medical Center in New York in 1998, and her residency in anesthesiology at Temple University Hospital in Pennsylvania in 2001.

Experienced in tending to patients undergoing surgery, she is board-certified in anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA). As the certifying body for anesthesiologists since 1938, the ABA is committed to partnering with physicians to advance lifelong learning and exceptional patient care. Its mission is to advance the highest standards of the practice of anesthesiology. 

Anesthesiology is the medical specialty concerned with the total perioperative care of patients before, during, and after surgery. It encompasses anesthesia, intensive care medicine, critical emergency medicine, and pain medicine. Anesthesiologists have the primary responsibility of monitoring the patient’s vital signs during surgery. In addition to basic measurements such as pulse, blood pressure, and temperature, they measure the patient’s respiration.
