Dr. Vineet Choudhry is a general surgeon practicing in Austin, TX. He returned to Austin in 2008 to open his surgical practice, and is the founding member of NorthStar Surgery Specialists, PA. Dr. Choudhry is an active member of numerous medical societies, including the AMA, TMA, and American College of Surgeons. He is board certified in General Surgery from the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (F.A.C.S.). The mission of NorthStar Surgery is to advance the practice of surgery. This will be done through being involved with continuing medical education, research, advancements in surgical technology, and involvement in medical teaching with the Austin area medical students and residents. Dr. Choudhry offers a wide spectrum of surgical expertise. This includes procedures in general, colorectal, endoscopic, minimally invasive/robotic, breast, vascular, soft tissue, and critical care surgery. His practice serves most of the Austin metro and surrounding area hospitals, with the ultimate mission of providing patients with cutting-edge modern surgical care, with compassion.

This includes membership in the American College of Surgeons, the American Medical Association, and the Texas Medical Association. He is also a member of the American Hernia Society, the Society of Robotic Surgery, the American Society of Breast Surgeons, the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, which underscores his commitment to ongoing professional development and excellence in patient care.
Dr. Choudhry’s dedication to advancing healthcare is exemplified by his involvement on the OR Governance Committee at the St. David’s hospitals, as well as serving as a Key Opinion Leader (KOL) for Intuitive Surgical. His commitment to education is equally noteworthy; he has held the positions of Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at Texas A&M College of Medicine and Core Faculty Professor for St. David’s Healthcare Graduate Medical Education General Surgery Residency Program. He also has had extensive experience teaching and training robotic surgery for Intuitive Surgical as a Certified Case Observation site and Certified Training Proctor, as well as the instructor for Intuitive’s Advanced Surgeon Training Courses.
Born near Chicago and raised in various cities, Dr. Choudhry considers himself a native Texan after moving to Ft. Worth in 1984. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Texas at Austin in 1997, followed by his Medical Degree from Texas A&M College of Medicine. After completing his residency in general surgery at the University of Kansas School of Medicine, he returned to Austin in 2008 to establish his practice.
Dr. Choudhry is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). He is dedicated to the advancement of medical research, with publications in the Journal of Robotic Surgery and Intuitive On-Line Community. He has also been involved with the COMPaCT and SPARC trials for gallbladders and the FROST trial for breast cancer.
Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Choudhry has received numerous accolades, including being named in Stanford’s Who’s Who in 2010 and recognized as one of America’s Top Surgeons in the same year. Since 2012, he has consistently earned recognition as a Healthgrades Recognized Doctor, a testament to his dedication to exceptional patient care. More recently he has been acknowledged as a Top Doctor of America in 2018 and has been named one of Austin’s Top Doctors by Austin Monthly Magazine in 2024 & 2025.
On a personal note, Dr. Choudhry shares his life with his wife, Jo Lanee Choudhry, MD, an obstetrician/gynecologist who practiced in Round Rock. Together, they enjoy cultural activities like Broadway shows and operas, movies, traveling, and spending quality time with friends and family. He enjoys giving back to his community and serves as a Safety Team Medical Responder at his church and is the president of the board of directors for his medical office building Condo Association and personal Home Owners Association.
