Get to know Interventional Cardiologist Dr. J. Christian Higgins, who serves patients in Vidalia, Georgia.

Board-certified and fellowship-trained interventional cardiologist, Dr. Higgins, provides expert diagnosis and treatment for a wide array of cardiovascular-related conditions. At present, he can be found on staff at Meadows Health Cardiology in Vidalia, Georgia.

The doctor’s acclaimed career in medicine began after he earned his medical degree from the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He then went on to complete his residency in internal medicine at the University of Vermont Medical Center/Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, followed by his fellowship in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology at the same educational venue. 

Aided by his extensive knowledge and expertise in all facets of interventional cardiology, Dr. Higgins is board-certified in both interventional cardiology and cardiovascular disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

In addition to being a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation, he holds certifications through the Certification Council of Nuclear Cardiology and the National Board of Medical Examiners.

Interventional cardiology is the subspecialty of cardiology that deals specifically with the catheter-based treatment of heart diseases. The field includes the diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease, vascular disease, and acquired structural heart disease. An interventional cardiologist is a cardiologist with one to two years of additional education and training in diagnosing and treating cardiovascular disease, as well as congenital and structural heart conditions through catheter-based procedures, such as angioplasty and stenting.
