Get to know Psychiatrist Dr. Randall McIntyre, who serves patients in Austin, Texas.
A trusted psychiatrist, Dr. McIntyre has been practicing child, adolescent, and adult psychiatry in the Austin, Texas area for over thirty years. While his current practice is exclusively outpatient, he has a long history of in and outpatient care.
Raised in Midland, Texas, he holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the University of Texas – Austin, and earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School – Houston. He completed his internship in family practice at Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, and completed his residencies in general psychiatry and child psychiatry at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
Due to his history in family practice, Dr. McIntyre’s clinical focus is holistic in nature, and recognizes the “mind body connection”. Most of his diagnosis and treatment incorporates a bio-psycho-social model, psychopharmacology and psychotherapy.
An authority in his field, the doctor is doubly boarded in child and adult psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the professions of psychiatry and neurology.
Among his prior academic appointments, Dr. McIntyre has served as a Clinical Professor at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, supervising students and residents for over twenty years.
Psychiatry is the medical specialty devoted to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of mental disorders. These include various maladaptations related to mood, behavior, cognition, and perceptions. Psychiatrists evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. On a more personal note, he and his wife live in the Westlake area with their three (unruly) cats.
