Get to know Pediatric Urologist Dr. Omar Cruz-Diaz, who serves patients in Orlando, Florida.

A skilled pediatric urologist, Dr. Cruz-Diaz works with patients at Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando, Florida. He is a physician who truly cares about his patients and their families, and is always trying to be humble, receptive, and empathetic. He understands the trust that parents place in him and his team, and he takes this responsibility very seriously. Every day, he strives to make a difference in the lives of those he treats and to bring a smile to their faces.

In his clinical role, he has extensive experience in managing various congenital disorders affecting the genitourinary system, including renal stones, undescended testicles, bladder exstrophy/cloaca, ambiguous genitalia, renal obstruction, and vesicoureteral reflux. He also has the rare distinction of having successfully separated conjoined twins.

Academically, Dr. Cruz-Diaz completed his medical education and residency in urology at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine. He initially pursued a career in plastic surgery and urology, but his passion for treating children soon took over. He went on to specialize in complex reconstructive surgeries of the genitourinary system at Miami Children’s Hospital, and has been instrumental in improving the lives of countless children and their families.

Passionate about his profession, the doctor is board-certified in urology and pediatric urology by the American Board of Urology (ABU). The mission of the ABU is to act for the benefit of the public by establishing and maintaining standards of certification for urologists, and working with certified urologists to achieve lifelong learning to ensure the delivery of high quality, safe, and ethical urologic care.

Maintaining fellowship status, he is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), and Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP).

Urology, also known as genitourinary surgery, is the branch of medicine that focuses on surgical and medical diseases of the male and female urinary-tract system and the male reproductive organs. Urologists specialize in diseases of the urinary tract and the male reproductive system. Patients may be referred to a urologist if their physician suspects they may need treatment for a condition relating to the bladder, prostate, urethra, ureters, kidneys, and adrenal glands.

On a more personal note, Dr. Cruz-Diaz is fluent in both English and Spanish.
