Pertaining to his educational pursuits, he earned his medical degree from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Honduras Facultad de Ciencias Medicas in 1978. He then went on to complete his residency in internal medicine at the Summa Health System/NEOMED Program in 1983, and his fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine in 1985.

Recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology (FACG), the doctor is board-certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
