How can I get over dental anesthesia fast?
It should wear off very quickly, they usually use "laughing gas," which is nitrous oxide, and its effects go away quite fast. READ MORE
How long does nerve block last after shoulder surgery?
Anywhere between 12-18 hours. READ MORE
Can an appendectomy be done under local anesthesia?
Theoretically, yes, but practically I would not recommend it, as there will be enough pain, so you have to be really tough to tolerate that pain. READ MORE
Is anesthesia given based on weight?
Yes, most of the drugs are given based on weight. READ MORE
What can go wrong with anesthesia?
It is a complicated answer. It depends on your co-existing diseases (if any) and type of surgery. Usually, there are no problems, but a lot of potential complications need to be discussed with your anesthesiologist when you give consent for your surgery and anesthesia. READ MORE
What should you monitor during anesthesia?
There is standard monitoring, which includes: Heart rate (pulse), Blood pressure, Oxygen saturation, End Tidal CO2 (breathing), and Temperature. READ MORE
Does alcohol affect local anesthetic?
No. READ MORE
Is topical anesthetic effective?
Yes, it could be. Most of the surgeries done under topical anesthesia are eye surgery procedure. READ MORE
What type of sedation is used for an MRI?
For adults, usually no sedation. Not needed, as there is no discomfort. READ MORE
Can I be put to sleep while pregnant?
Absolutely. I would avoid, however, doing it during the first trimester of pregnancy, as that is the period of organogenesis for the baby, so you want to avoid interaction with any drugs. READ MORE
How long does it take to fall asleep with anesthesia?

How soon can you walk after dental anesthesia?

What is a ring block in anesthesia?

How do you anesthetize a finger?
The simplest way is what is called a "digital block", done by the surgeon, with local anesthetic (numbing medication). If there is any question that you are anxious or stressed related to the surgery, the anesthesiologist can also give you sedation medication through an IV (intravenous) catheter. READ MORE
Is there an alternative to anesthesia?
Not really. The only option is to have the procedure (if it is feasible to be it that way) done under local anesthesia, something similar to when you go to your dentist and he/she gives you an injection with local anesthetics (numbing medication). But the main deciding factor is what kind of surgical procedure you will have, as some of them cannot be done (under any circumstances) with local anesthesia. READ MORE
Are opioids used for anesthesia?
Yes, most of the time for pain control. READ MORE
Are there narcotics in anesthesia?
Possibly, as they are given for pain control, if the pain is moderate to severe. READ MORE
Does dental anesthesia sedate you completely?
Usually no. If it is just local anesthesia, there is no sedation. If it is done with nitrous oxide (laughing gas), then you could get a little bit sedated. READ MORE
What happens if you're allergic to anesthesia?
It is difficult to answer this, as there is no generic "allergy" to anesthesia, especially in a 28 y.o. patient. You may be allergic to some antibiotics, but you can get another type if necessary. You may have side effects from narcotics ( pain medication, usually nausea, vomiting or constipation), but you can get a different type of pain meds. But anesthesia per se (general, epidural, spinal, IV sedation) does not cause major allergic reactions. READ MORE
Is spinal anesthesia better than general?
It depends on the procedure you will have. For example, if you are pregnant and will have a cesarean, the spinal anesthesia is absolutely better both for you and your baby. If you have a different kind of procedure, the type of anesthesia may not make such a big difference. It also makes a huge difference based on your prior medical history, but being 25 y.o., most of the time it means you are otherwise healthy (unless I am totally wrong and do not have all the details). So, in the end, it is important what you agree to, what you feel comfortable with and whether you are pregnant or not. READ MORE
